Porcupine Tree in Rome
Last Saturday (17th November) I went to the concert of Porcupine Tree and Anathema at Teatro Tendastrisce in Rome. I Loved it! An absolutely mind-blowing experience...
This was a concert I was eagerly looking forward to attend for months.
Anathema opened the show. I never actually listened to any of their songs, so I was a bit unprepared, but their songs were quite interesting, unfortunately the sound was very bad (especially the drums).
Anyway, after 40 minutes they left the stage and we were in for a long wait (it looked as if they were doing the whole soundcheck again). When Gavin's drumkit was unveiled (it had been hidden under a black cloak during Anathema's show) the crowd applauded and cheered
.
Finally, Porcupine Tree went on stage with the opening of "Fear of a Blank Planet", Steven immediately went in front under the spotlight and began playing, face covered by his hair. As Gavin started playing, I knew I was in for a great show. They performed some of the tracks from the latest album ("Anesthetize", "Way out of Here", "Sleep Together" and the opener) and some of the older, less known songs (including my favorites like "Lightbulb Sun" and "The Sky moves Sideways" - which, by the way, was much much better than on the record if possible!).
They closed the show with "Even Less" and "Halo" (exactly as on their live DVD): a really great concert, I enjoyed every bit of it (except perhaps the tall guy with curly hair in front of me
). On the way out I simply had to buy the Porcupine Tree drumsticks...
